A look back in history through Museums and Facebook Pages

A few years ago when I went to visit the Geronimo B. de los Reyes, Jr. Museum (GBR Museum) in Gen. Trias, Cavite, I got enamored with our history. The museum had a varied collection of old photographs from the 1800s up to the present. It showed varied visuals of how the Philippines was during the colonial years of the Spanish and Americans up to some of the important historical events of the present.

Aside from the photographs, the museum also had two pavilions dedicated to aviation. Aviation, is apparently on of the interests of Mr. Geronimo B. de los Reyes, Jr. who envisioned and built the museum. GBR as he is fondly called has a love for history, arts and culture and the museum is a concrete fixture of his passion.

It's quite a disappointment looking at what was and what is, considering our leaders never had a vision for maintaining our history and culture. Several old building have given way to newer buildings destroying physical manifestation to our historical past.

Aside from seeing the actual photos from the museum, I am quite fond of looking at Facebook pages which gives us a look of what the Philippines was like in it's early years.

Two of the Facebook pages are Pearl of the Orient and Lahat 1900s.

These two Facebook pages show how beautiful and clean our country was in the early years. Quite far from the congestion and and what seems to be the chaos of Manila traffic.
