The Opportunity is Here

I mentioned in 2 of my previous posts that there's a lot of opportunities that can be taken advantage of with the reemergence of the internet and the popularity of social media (Generation F and A Net of Opportunities). I say reemergence because of the dot.com bubble which happened in the late 90s. It seems though that lessons have been learned (although some still think that some social media platforms may be overvalued and history may be repeated). But I do think it is the time to take advantage of opportunities as Seth Godin's post 'The Opportunity is Here' points out. People have learned how to use the internets' ability to connect people and build communities to create value to generate profit from it. As I pointed out in my previous posts people have actually taken advantage of it and have created stable business models and it this continues. A good example of this can be seen in many local group buying businesses, which to me is like the shawarma or pearl shake phenomenon - have money to invest, do what others are doing.

Bloggers are the first group to take advantage of this and some of them have actually transformed their online blog into a 'brand' - Awesome.ph and Yugatech.com just to name a few. From blogging to online marketing to group buying - that's how they have transformed. But for those who are willing to jump and learn about internet and the opportunities it provides it may just be the pot of gold. To quote a portion of Seth Godin's post:

The opportunity, though, is the biggest of our generation (or the last one, for that matter). The opportunity is there for anyone (with or without a job) smart enough to take it--to develop a best in class skill, to tell a story, to spread the word, to be in demand, to satisfy real needs, to run from the mediocre middle and to change everything.
