I've tried going through this journey several times and I came back to corporate several times so in this case I guess I've failed in my my attempts to become an entrepreneur. In my younger years I guess it was a good reason not to work or instead of saying I was in between jobs it was better to say I'm setting up a business. This was in fact true because my mom wanted to take over a laundromat which my sister initially started. We had a potentially big client but unfortunately the potential client sold the business and there was no big client to speak of.
At one point I also had a clear idea of what I wanted to do (and it's still in my bucket list) I hated my job and I said 'f#ck it! Lez do this!'. Unreliable contacts from an industry which seems to have dubious character made it sink. But the basic concept I feel holds strong for this business and people have been genuinely interested, so I feel it's just really a matter of time and waiting for the proper circumstances for this business to start all over again. It's still connected to what my core competence is I think which is online marketing.
About a year and a half ago I was forced to go on my own (just read between the lines). I took this as the world telling me that this is what I should be doing. I asked advice from a friend and he told me the same thing - it about time you try and really focus on it. He helped me out by essentially becoming my first client to do SEM for his autism school in Singapore - I hardly earn anything from this but it's still cash flow.
In between that time and now I was able to get some clients for a website and about middle of this year I got a client who asked me to do their social media management. I also got some projects for SEO and SEM which helped in the cash flow. I also incorporated Hop Online, Inc. and Got Deals Mobile, Inc.
It's still not a rosy picture but based on article I read about entrepreneurship it never really is. I guess this is a long intro for the article - 6 Ways to Master Entrepreneurship, which describes almost exactly what I'm going through (click on the title to read the article).
I wanted this blog to chronicle my journey but I always find a reason not to write. I'll try to write more often from now on and not just copy posting (yes it's posting).
I'll also take this opportunity to share another article which is about travelling. I think whatever journey in whatever context is the same. I think my journey in entrepreneurship and literal travelling is just as well the same. So you can take inspiration from this travel article as well - 3 Reason to Travel While Your Young (click on the article title).
